Dutch Coffee Shops
The word coffeeshop on the outside of a buildings means that the establishment sells weed. It doesn't mean that this is the only thing you can buy here. They also sell soft drinks, never alcohol, and snacks. But, if you want a cup of coffee, look for the word cafe on the building.
Hash Bars
Coffee shop can mean only one thing in Amsterdam: hash bar. You may think that buying and selling marihuana is legal in the Netherlands. This is not true. Buying and selling is decriminalised, that's all.
Coffee shops are not allowed to advertise. Still it is easy to find them.

Coffee Shop Rules
If you want to indulge in marihuana, ask for the menu at the bar. It shows several types of weed and prices, either per gram, or the amount of grams you get for a certain price.
Expect to pay anything from ¤5 to ¤10 for one gram. If you are new to weed, you can also buy a pre-rolled joint.
Coffee Shop Guide
Dutch coffee shops are licensed places that sell hash, cannabis and marihuana. Soft drugs are illegal in the Netherlands but everyone over eighteen is allowed to possess 30 grams of weed.

Coffeeshops are easy to find. Their names and neon signs are your guide. Stil, if you want to find a particular coffee shop, it's useful to have a map.
Learn about Weed
Every person in the Netherlands is allowed to possess three weed plants for private consumption. Weed plantations are illegal. Still, 50% of weed sold in coffee shops is grown locally, the rest is smuggled in from Morocco and the Middle East
